Quality for Silver life 3th professional meeting report (EN)

The third and at the same time final professional meeting of our Quality for Silver Life project took place in Alsómocsolád (Hungary) between 19-22 September 2022.

The first two meetings were mainly aimed at the partners getting to know each other personally and professionally and presenting local good practices, projects and experiences in the field of elderly care, active ageing and quality ageing.

The third meeting also aimed at presenting and sharing local good practices and experiences, but as a final session we also aimed at evaluating the project and exploring future cooperation opportunities.

On the first day of the meeting, after the reception of the guests, a dinner was held, where, in addition to the foreign guests, the village council representatives of Alsómocsolád, the management of the Home for the Elderly and the colleagues working on the project took part. During the dinner, in addition to getting to know each other personally, the participants were also able to learn about the programme, objectives and expected results of the event.

On the second day of the professional meeting, we visited the Szent Lőrinc Care Home (https://szlg.hu/) in Pécs, an institution providing care and nursing services maintained by the Diocese of Pécs. They provide a secure home for people who are unable to care for themselves (or only with help) due to old age or illness. In their institution, this is reflected in the fact that, in addition to the care and nursing tasks, community building, spending time activly and usefully - adapted to the resident's life situation - activities, joint and individual kinesitherapy, mental hygiene and the opportunity to practice religion are also important daily activities. Since 2013, they have been licensed to provide state-of-the-art nursing care, which includes facilities and qualified nursing care. Caring for people with dementia and providing a safe environment for them have priority in their institution.

ttila Szűcs, Director of the institution, and Orsolya Németh, Institutional Coordinator, helped us to introduce the institution.

After the professional programme, we had the opportunity to visit the Cathedral and the Bishop's Palace, as well as take short city tour.

After the programme in Pécs, we visited the Bikal Experience Farm - https://elmenybirtok.hu/ - which could be a good example for developing Silver Economy. The Experience Farm offers unique opportunities for recreation for all ages, and is therefore suitable for seniors for recreation, relaxation and bathing. Gentle tourism, active tourism and touristic services for older people can be a way out for disadvantaged settlements, but it is also essential to ensure networked cooperation between settlements and to preserve, protect and present the natural, landscape, cultural and built heritage.

Alsómocsolád was the venue for the third day of the professional programme.

During the programme, Anita Pitzné Keller, head of the "Autumn Light" Home for the Elderly, presented the operation of the Home, and the participants were also given the opportunity to visit the institution.

The "Autumn Light" Home for the Elderly opened its doors to the elderly on 1 May 2006. The professional work of the institution pays special attention to the individual sensitivity, abilities, needs and requirements of the residents, to the implementation of personalised care, to the preservation of their activity and to the support of quality ageing.  It is important for them to have daily personal contact with their residents, to have one-to-one conversations and to listen to their problems and needs, both in the mental hygiene group sessions and in the care work they carry out.

After the introduction to the Home for the Elderly, Anikó Balogh and Marietta Mészáros-Taller presented the work in the Day Care Centre to the participants. Currently, 15 people participate in the day care, which provides them with health promotion activities, excursions, participation in cultural and sports events, creative activities, administrative assistance and community.

As part of the professional programme, participants were able to try the services currently provided by the recreation centre, the Orgon and the salt room.

After lunch, the kindergarten children from the Mágocs kindergarten gave a taste of Hungarian folk dance, and then the pensioners from the day care offered freshly baked pancakes to our guests.

In the afternoon, Dr. Attila Sík, Head of the Institute of Transdisciplinary Research of the University of Pécs, spoke about the meaning of Silver Economy and why Baranya County could be the region where these opportunities could be used to the full.

Zsuzsa Halmai, head of the Northern Ridge (Észak-Hegyhát) Micro-regional Union, talked about the opportunities of the micro-region, the measures and plans taken so far in the field of elderly care, quality and active ageing, highlighting the importance of co-operation at the regional level and between sectors.

To conclude the workshop, two issues were discussed in small groups per country:

1. What kind of good practices did the participants see during the professional meetings of the project, what could they take over from them, what suggestions could they give to the hosts.
